Our new sheds arrive

We have now had our two need sheds erected. One shed to store all camping equipment, tables and benches and one shed for new woodworking/gardening tools. Before we do any moving of equipment we will be ensuring that the site is well secured and all equipment is security marked, this is in the hands of our new Quartermaster Simon Harding.

This shed is the larger of the two and will hold camping equipment.

The woodworking/gardening tool shed.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has been involved in the project, but especially Dave Bibby for all his hard work.

In a few weeks the guides should also have their shed in place next to our large shed.

Snail Race

Hi Everyone

Thank you to all those that sponsored a race or snail and bought tickets for the event. We could not have got more people into the hall.

Well what a night it was. Children were screaming with excitement, but the adults were really out doing them!!!!!!!!

We think that we can safely say that everyone had a really good night, and everyone went home with full tummies on food and wine.

Thank you to the Leaders (Mike, Marie, Phil, Alastair and Dave), Paul (Chairman), Christine (Bibby) and Nigel (Ford) for their support on the night we could not have done it without you.

If you would like a compare for your evening is seems we have a hidden talent in Chris Lawton our Treasurer!!!

A lot of people made a real effort in their dress for the evening, especially Allanne our Group Secretary (see photo below) and her family.
We raised just under £500 from this event towards the new camp mess tent and small gazebo.

Thank you once again, hopefully we can find something as exciting for October 2010.

St George's Day Disco

Thanks to everyone that supported the Disco and purchased raffle tickets. Our thanks also go to those previously mentioned that donated raffle prizes and additionally to Keycamp, Roberts Bakery and Tesco for their very kind donations.

Well done to the Bar Masters Alastair, Paul and Chris and Dave on the BBQ.

Thanks to some of our scouts for running the children's bar, and also the doorman! Also to one of the scouts sister for taking the photos on the night.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the dance floor was full of children and adults all night. We actually ran out of white wine and more supplies had to be sent for!!

We managed to raise over £900 with the help of Davenham and Leftwich Guide Group.
Thank you all once again.
2/05/09 Our total now raised is over £1000 with the generous donation of £100

Shed progress report no 1

On this section of the Davenham Scouts Blog you will find progress reports about the sheds that we and Davenham Guides wish to purchase. Below are a couple of photos of the old sheds.

As a lot of you will know we have lost our storage facility in the old garage at the Bulls Head, and have had to move our/Guides equipment into temporary storage facilities. We will in the future lose some of the facilities in the Hayhurst Room when the refurbishment starts. Both sheds that are now presently at the side of the Church Hall are derelict, have asbestos roofs and are not suitable to store our new camping equipment and kayaks. This project will ensure that by the time our current Beavers get to Cubs/Scouts all our equipment will still be in good condition.

We want to purchase 2 sheds (one for Guides and one for Scouts) at a total cost of £7,660, but before we can purchase we need to prepare the land at the sides and rear of the Church Hall. Quotes are being submitted and these are in the region of £22,000. In the near future we hope to set up a working party to try to reduce these costs for both Guides and Scouts, by organising days where parents/children can come and help clear the site and to do any ground work ourselves that will reduce the cost.

How we are trying to raise the money
We are submitting grant applications to different organisations, we have also been given £500 from DPC specifically for this project. Fundraising - our 1st major event is the St. George's Day Disco and raffle on 25th April, for which our main prize is a holiday and ferry crossing from Dover to Calais donated by Eurocamp. Tickets are available via your leaders or can be order using our contacts page. Raffle tickets will be sent to you nearer the time and we would appreciate you selling to family/friends and work collegues. Both Guides and Scouts also have money allocated within our funds for this project.
