Shed progress report no 1

On this section of the Davenham Scouts Blog you will find progress reports about the sheds that we and Davenham Guides wish to purchase. Below are a couple of photos of the old sheds.

As a lot of you will know we have lost our storage facility in the old garage at the Bulls Head, and have had to move our/Guides equipment into temporary storage facilities. We will in the future lose some of the facilities in the Hayhurst Room when the refurbishment starts. Both sheds that are now presently at the side of the Church Hall are derelict, have asbestos roofs and are not suitable to store our new camping equipment and kayaks. This project will ensure that by the time our current Beavers get to Cubs/Scouts all our equipment will still be in good condition.

We want to purchase 2 sheds (one for Guides and one for Scouts) at a total cost of £7,660, but before we can purchase we need to prepare the land at the sides and rear of the Church Hall. Quotes are being submitted and these are in the region of £22,000. In the near future we hope to set up a working party to try to reduce these costs for both Guides and Scouts, by organising days where parents/children can come and help clear the site and to do any ground work ourselves that will reduce the cost.

How we are trying to raise the money
We are submitting grant applications to different organisations, we have also been given £500 from DPC specifically for this project. Fundraising - our 1st major event is the St. George's Day Disco and raffle on 25th April, for which our main prize is a holiday and ferry crossing from Dover to Calais donated by Eurocamp. Tickets are available via your leaders or can be order using our contacts page. Raffle tickets will be sent to you nearer the time and we would appreciate you selling to family/friends and work collegues. Both Guides and Scouts also have money allocated within our funds for this project.

  1. Good luck on the shed folks :-) I hope you all have a jolly good time working your socks off raising money, I would donate some money but I spent my monthly 30 pence on three cola bottle sweeties, tally ho!
