Well done from everyone in 1st Davenham Scout Group

Morning Everyone,

Last weekend, on Sat 4th June, Jamie and two friends from school all aged 12, Mia aged 10 and accompanying parents completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in 12 hours. This was an extremely arduous trek encompassing 3 peaks totalling 5200ft climb, with a walk of 25 miles in 12 hours.

They did it and were absolutely exhausted but they finished what many adults attempt but can't complete, showing tremendous fortitude and focus. Mia battled with the remnants of a cold and a turned ankle, Tom tried to kneecap himself on part of the first peak but only bled for the next 11.5 hours so it wasn't too bad !!! (smiley faced knee and now known as Peggy to his mates), and Mathew ended up with two vivid, deep red holes like targets where his heels should have been! Grandad lost a toenail but didn't tell anyone until sunday, and Norm and Jo spent the evening in A and E sorting out Tom's knee - all 3 of them missing the celebration BBQ and having cold sausages at midnight for supper after all that effort! Jo was really suffering from a cold and still completed it. Seriously huge effort all round.

Breakfast the next morning was nearly a washout but spirits were high as that could have been the weather they had to walk in - a lucky escape by all. Jamie felt the rain wasn't wet enough so went for a bracing dip in the river, briefly, and very quickly followed it with a hot shower and a pint of tea! Thank you Uncle Andy 'Birthday Boy' for putting that idea into his head!

All this pain, training, agony and effort was for one purpose - to raise funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research so that more sufferers survive these killer diseases. Jamie knows he was lucky to survive and to get through all the treatment so that he is now in remission and at High School as any other 12 year old boy. Jamie is also very aware of those are not so lucky and in recognition of the work of Alder Hey and Leighton Hospitals and the research done, he chose to raise funds for LLR, so that more people survive. Spent all day on activities in the energy and skills zones, so I saw Jelly Baby's respiratories and knocked Alex C off a balance beam gladiator style!!!:) also made a tent peg, tied 6 knots which I forgot and built a chair. Yesterday I did olympia and arena and wore a sumo suit. Got a good record on shot put. We had to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 the sequel, after I went and saw my friends in the Leicester camp, then on to the German camp where we were asked questions like 'do you have washing machines' and 'do you have tv's'. They are very good at speaking english.
Charlie was sick, well he thought he was they blame it on my cooking, I mean I ate my pancakes and 3/4 of the camp did but I didn't feel sick!!!!:)
Alex L

Hopefully if the internet will stay connected will put up the photos of days 1 - 4 on the activities page.

People from USA and Scotland are coming for tea tonight for a food swap should be interesting.

Just off to Scottish camp to eat their food

Alex C

Loving camp favourite bit is the inflatable duel

Edward.

By the way it was Spag Bol in our camp tonigh not a very english meal!!

Day Three

Haven goes a little strange every night I think he is having too much sugar
Alex D

Charlie had to go home, got ill I think it's was because of the pancakes Alex L cooked for us, they didn't look right!!

Jack

Done the Olympics today and got the stamp for it

James

Made more friends from other groups

Ashley

I'm cooking tonight having a full english tea (meat pots and veg) with Alex D.

Jack

I hate everyone for voting for me to do the washing up - they say I was away talking to girls, no one is helping me as they say I was back late for dinner and this is jankers!!

Alex L

Mrs Senior (Ashley's mum) sent a very delicious chocolate cake over for tea tonight and Haven said "my mum's cakes are better" I have informed Mrs Carty by text so watch this space

Phil(SSA)

Is there a parents competition on cakes, are Mrs Campbell's going to be voted for next! All of our sections: Beavers Cubs and Scouts require additional leaders and helpers.
The benefits your child gains through Scouting are in the main as a direct result of the dedication, time and commitment by our adult leaders and helpers. We need your help. Just how can you do that? Everybody has something they can give; do you have hobbies or recognised skills that you can share with us, first aid for example.
Could I please ask you to read through the leaflet ‘Where did all that mud come from?’ then ask yourself what could I do to support our group and community.
